Objective To investigate the expression and significance of Ki-67 and Caspase-3 in the esophageal mucosa of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD).Methods Sixty GERD patients, including 20 cases of reflux esophagitis(RE),20 cases of non-erosive reflux disease (NERD) and 20 cases of Barrett esophagus(BE) were enrolled in the study;esophageal mucosa samples were also taken from 15 normal healthy subjects as controls. The esophageal samples were examined with routine histopathology;the expressions of Ki-67 and Caspase-3 proteins in the esophageal mucosa were detected by immunohistochemistry and Western-blot methods. Results Prominent proliferation in esophageal mucous membrane was observed histopathologically in all 3 groups of GERD patients. The positive rates of Ki-67 and intensity of expression in NERD,RE and BE groups were 80%,85%and 95%,which were significantly higher than that of controls(6.7%, P<0.05);while the expression of Caspase-3 in NERD,RE,and BE groups were 95%,90%and 75%,only BE group were lower than control group(100.0%,PP<0.05).Conclusion Expression of Ki-67 and Caspase-3 may be associated with the proliferation of esophageal mucous membrane and the change of tissue resistance in gastroesophageal reflux disease.
