Abstract:Peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator-1α(PGC-1α) is a master regulator of oxidative metabolism and mitochondrial oxidative stress in various organs. In bone metabolism, PGC-1α promotes the differentiation, proliferation and mineralization of osteoblasts and inhibits the differentiation of osteoclasts. At the same time, it is important for maintaining the expression of specific genes in osteocytes. This article reviews the effects of PGC-1α on osteoblasts, osteocytes and osteoclasts to provide insight for the mechanism, diagnosis and treatment of bone metabolism-related diseases.
