Abstract:The incidence and disability rate of spinal cord injury are high, so far there is no therapeutic method to completely repair the injured spinal cord. With the development of stem cell transplantation technology, it is hoped that the damaged spinal cord can be fundamentally repaired. Of all the stem cells, human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells may be the best choice for transplantation. Animal studies have confirmed a huge potential of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells in spinal cord injury repair, but the clinical transformation is still far from satisfactory. This article will focus on the mechanism of neural repair for spinal cord injury, and discuss the optimal clinical transplantation route, dose, timing, safety and efficacy.
