Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the correlation between serum adiponectin/leptin expression and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) complicated with carotid atherosclerosis (CAS). MethodsA total of 110 T2DM patients treated in Shanghai Jinshan Tinglin Hospital from August 2022 to August 2024 were enrolled as study subjects. Based on carotid ultrasound results, the patients were further divided into T2DM group(n=53) and T2DM+CAS group(n=57). Additionally, 50 healthy individuals of the same age range who underwent physical examinations in Tinglin Hospital during the same period were enrolled as the control group(n=50). The clinical data and biochemical parameters were collected, including fasting plasma glucose(FPG), hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), triglyceride(TG)、high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP), et al. Serum adiponectin and leptin levels were measured by using ELISA methods, and the various detected data were performed relevant statistical analysis. ResultsCompared with the control group, the serum FPG, GHbA1c, hs-CRP and leptin levels were significantly higher, while serum adiponectin levels were significantly lower in T2DM and T2DM+CAS groups(all P<0.05). In T2DM+CAS group, serum leptin level was positively correlated with FPG, GHbA1c, TG and hs-CRP(all P<0.05), while negatively correlated with HDL-C(P<0.05). Serum adiponectin level was positively correlated with HDL-C(P<0.05), while negatively correlated with FPG, GHbA1c, TG, hs-CRP and leptin(all P<0.05). ConclusionIn T2DM patients complicated with CAS, serum adiponectin expression is downregulated, while serum leptin expression is upregulated, and both are correlated with the condition of T2DM complicated with CAS. Clinical detection of serum adiponectin and leptin levels may have predictive value for T2DM complicated with atherosclerosis.
