Abstract: |
Objective To investigate the influence of α-lipoic acid on serum SOD, MDA and hs-CRP levels in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods One hundred and twenty type 2 diabetic patients were randomly divided into two groups with 60 cases in each. Patients in both groups received conventional hypoglycemics/insulin therapy, and α-lipoic acid was added in patients of observation group. Serum SOD, MDA and hs-CRP were determined before treatment and 2 weeks and 3 months after treatment. Results After 2 weeks of treatment, serum SOD was significantly increased, serum MDA and hs-CRP were significantly decreased in α-lipoic acid group compared to same group before treatment and the control group after treatment(all P<0.05). There were significant differences in serum SOD and MDA levels of α-lipoic acid group between those at 2 weeks and at 3 months after treatment(P<0.05), but no significant difference in hs-CRP levels(P> 0.05). Conclusion α- lipoic acid can reduce the oxidative stress response and inflammatory mediator levels in type 2 diabetic patients receiving conventional treatement. |
