Abstract:
ObjectiveTo explore the association of sleep quality and trait coping styles in pregnant women. MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted among 309 pregnant women who were registered in Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Tongji University between December 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019. The general demographic data were collected through a self-designed questionnaire, and the sleep quality and trait coping styles of pregnant women were assessed with the Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) and Coping Styles Questionnaire(CSQ), respectively. Logistic regression was used to analyze the association between sleep quality and trait coping in pregnant women. ResultsAmong 308 pregnant women included in the final analysis the mean PSQI score was 5.77±2.93. There were 140 pregnant women(45.5%) with poor sleep quality(PSQI>5); and there were 66(21.4%), 102(33.1%), 33(10.7%), 44(14.3%), 60(19.5%), 1(0.3%) and 102(33.1%) participants having problems of subjective sleep quality, time to sleep, actual sleep time, sleep efficiency, sleep disorders, sleep medication use, and daytime dysfunction, respectively. The average scores of subjective sleep quality, sleep onset time, sleep disorder and daytime dysfunction were 1.07±0.67, 1.23±0.84, 1.13±0.55 and 1.37±0.83, respectively. Logistic regression analysis showed that positive coping was correlated with PSQI score, subjective sleep quality, time to sleep, sleep disorders, and daytime dysfunction, while negative coping was correlated with PSQI score, subjective sleep quality, time to sleep, sleep disorders, and daytime dysfunction. ConclusionThe study shows that trait coping styles are positively associated with sleep quality among pregnant women, indicating that a positive coping style can help improve the sleep quality of pregnant women.
