Abstract:
The oral microbiome is closely associated with oral and systemic diseases, the mechanisms include dysbiosis, inflammatory response, toxin factors, microbial translocation colonization and disorders of the immune system. Many factors influence or regulate the oral microbiome, including genetics, age, gender, ethnicity, environment, diet, smoking, oral hygiene, periodontal therapy, and medications. This review encapsulates the associations between the oral microbiome and systemic diseases, along with its potential mechanisms. It delineates the factors that influence or regulate the oral microbiome. A comprehensive comprehension of these factors may contribute to preserving the equilibrium of the oral microbiome, thereby exerting a favorable impact on oral health and furtherly the whole body.
Key words:  oral microbiome  oral diseases  systemic diseases  dysbiosis  inflammatory response
